Resources are out there for nail salon technicians and at-home workers. From labor alliances to community organizations, these spaces provide a place to advocate for your needs as a manicurist. Check out our community organization spotlight below to learn more about resources that may help you in your journey on targeting EDCs in the salons and at home.

Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance

(APALA)

APALA is a national organization that consists of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) workers. With over 20 chapters in the U.S. and national chapter in Washington D.C., APALA can provide culturally tailored resources to help you organize in the workplace and advocate for safer working conditions (1).

Adhikaar

Adhikhaar is a women-led community and worker's center that advocates for Nepali-speaking and low-income communities to promote social justice and worker's justice. Adikhaar centers Nepali voices at the forefront and provides hands-on worker training, immigration assistance, and a community center in Woodside, NY (2).

California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative

(CHNSC)

CHNSC is a grassroots organization that addresses issues that Vietnamese manicurists experience at the workplace. Through policy advocacy, worker training, leadership development, movement building, and research, CHNSC is able to help Vietnamese nail salon workers to understand hazards in the workplace and how to advocate for better working conditions (3).

NY Healthy Nail Salons Coalition

(NYHNSC)

NYHNSC was founded by under the idea that nail salon workers deserve a healthy and safe workplace with their voices being heard. NYHNSC and Workers United run the New York Nail Salon School, and serves primarily Asian and Latina workers. The school provides a pathway to become a licensed manicurist as well as training on worker rights, advocacy, and workplace health and safety (4).
